Metode: Pri izdelavi zaključnega dela smo izvedli pregled literature in uporabili deskriptivno metodo dela. Zbrano literaturo smo si pridobili iz podatkovnih baz PubMed, Cinahl in Cochrane Library, jih nato pregledali in analizirali ter določili nivoje dokazov izbranim člankom. Potek iskanja smo prikazali v diagramu PRISMA.

Title:Interventions to improve the quality of sleep in patients in the intensive care unit
Abstract:Introduction: Sleep is an important factor in maintaining health. Patients hospitalized in ICU have problems in ensuring quality sleep, mainly because of the sounds and light that are created by all the necessary equipment. Poor sleep prolongs the treatment time, which affects the worsening of the patient's general condition, so it is necessary for the patient to sleep sufficiently and of good quality. The purpose of the final work is to investigate interventions that improve the quality of sleep of patients in intensive care. Methods: When preparing the final work, we conducted a review of the literature and used the descriptive method of work. We obtained the collected literature from the PubMed, Cinahl and Cochrane Library databases, then reviewed them, analyzed and assigned levels of evidence to the collected articles. We have shown the search process in the PRISMA diagram. Results: We included 15 identified studies in the final analysis. Interventions to improve sleep in ICU patients can be divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Pharmacological, were carried out using various drugs, e.g. melatonin, propofol, dexdor. Non-pharmacological ones included the use of earplugs, eye coverings, listening to soothing music before going to sleep, the use of aromatic fragrances, massage and aromatherapy. Interventions to improve sleep were shown to be effective not only from the point of view of the patient's subjective assessment, but also had a positive effect on regulation and normalization vital functions and reduction of pain in the patient. Discussion and conclusion: Various interventions can be used to improve the quality of the patient's sleep and thereby also improve well-being. Pharmacological intervention using melatonin proved to be the most effective intervention. We also believe that non-pharmacological interventions could improve the patient's sleep quality.
