Abstract:Z izbrano temo smo želeli preučiti odnos, strategijo in znanje, ki jih imajo smučarski skakalci glede klinične športne prehrane ter kakšna je njihova sestava telesa.

Title:Relationship between sport nutriton strategy and body composition of ski jumpers
Abstract:With the selected topic, we wanted to investigate the relationship, strategy, and knowledge of ski jumpers regarding sports nutrition and examine their body composition. Ski jumping is a sport where low body mass is crucial. It is classified as a gravitational sport, meaning that increased body mass limits proper execution. Low body mass is one of the success factors, but it should be noted that very low body mass can cause serious problems with physical performance due to a decrease in jumping force, general weakness, and managing forces during landings. Moreover, it increases the risk for physical and mental health problems. Since maintaining a consistently low body mass is challenging and requires a lot of knowledge, the purpose of this research was to analyze the dietary strategies of ski jumpers. The main goal of clinical sports nutrition is to meet the energy and nutrient requirements of an elite athlete. This is necessary for quality physical regeneration and adaptation to training, maintaining their health, and preventing injuries. The nutritional strategy directly affects the body mass of the ski jumpers, which is regulated according to the body mass index (BMI). The introduction of the BMI criterion, which determines the length of skis, has reduced the advantage of lightweight jumpers. However, despite the use of shorter skis, low body mass still represents an advantage within certain limits. Therefore, ski jumpers strive for an optimally low body mass in sports practice. This is also reflected in the results of our research, which show that ski jumpers skip meals and adjust their nutritional strategies to achieve low body mass. This is reflected in the body composition measurements, which show a low proportion of lean mass despite a normal BMI and adequate hydration, as well as a relatively low phase angle. The latter is an indicator of overall health and nutritional status and also reflects the athlete's performance status. In the analysis of the results of body composition measurements, we found that low body mass in ski jumpers does not correspond to professional standards of a healthy body composition. Therefore, from a health perspective, it would be more optimal to determine the composition of body mass rather than measuring BMI in ski jumpers. This way, we could better protect the lean mass of athletes, which is a determinant of their health. A healthy ratio of body masses is crucial for monitoring the health of athletes in sports where low body mass represents a competitive advantage.
