Title:Motives, Sociosexuality and The Dark Triad of Tinder Users
Abstract:The way we find and communicate with potential romantic and sexual partners has changed radically in recent years with the arrival of dating apps and websites. After the Covid-19 virus epidemic, Tinder, which is considered the most popular dating app, became the place to meet new people, and many individuals went there to find a potential partner or just a conversation. The growing popularity of dating apps inspired us to explore the motivations of users, as well as some of their personality traits. In a sample of 294 participants, 111 Tinder users and 183 non-users, we found that men are more likely to use Tinder for sexual experiences than women. As expected, we found that Tinder users' relationship-seeking motive is positively correlated with age. We also found that Tinder users, compared to non-users, are characterised by more unrestricted sociosexuality. The latter was also found to be a significant predictor of the use of Tinder for sexual experiences. We also found that sociosexuality mediates the relationship between the dark triad and the use of Tinder for sexual experiences. Our study, which is one of the first in this field in Slovenia, provides a deeper understanding of the constructs studied and the relationships between them, and we see added value in the fact that our study was conducted after the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, when certain changes have emerged among dating app users that are not yet well understood and provide a starting point for further research.
