Abstract:Živimo v času, kjer so računalniški sistemi nekaj vsakdanjega. 767).

Title:Definition, implementation and practices of green computing in Slovenia and abroad
Abstract:We live in an era where computer systems are commonplace. We tend to think of the advantages they offer – after all, there is no denying that they simplify our work in many areas of our lives. As a disadvantage we most commonly mention the increasing dependence from them, especially among young people. It does not seem that enough is being said about the pollution side, the one that is usually not visible to us as users. This is the main reason of this master’s thesis. There are daily more and more computers, as is their electricity consumption. This is one of the reasons for the increase of carbon particles in the atmosphere. Green Computing and its strategies are an opportunity for a healthier and safer place for people to live in (Vikram, 2015, p. 767). It is hard to describe a unified way of Green Computing. This is a discipline that is gaining importance and supporters from day to day. Although, globally speaking, there is no regulation of Green Computing yet, this is expected to change in the next couple of years. Organizations that are aware of this and are already taking steps toward it are already ahead of the competition. It is interesting to look at the statistics stating that computer systems are the “culprit” of 13 % of electricity consumption in office buildings. This represents 2 % of annual electricity consumption in the whole USA, or as much as the consumption of New Jersey State alone (Levis, et al., n.d.). Slovenia seems to be a few steps behind. Referring to our survey, more than 80 % of respondents had never heard of Green Computing. On the other hand, half of them consider it as a very important element of the future of organizations.
