Abstract:Temeljni namen magistrskega dela je bil podrobneje preučiti značilne vrednote mladih glede na njihovo stopnjo tradicionalne religioznosti in duhovne usmerjenosti, v desetih državah jugovzhodne Evrope.

Title:Young people's values in relation to spirituality and traditional religiosity: an analysis in ten countries of Southeast Europe
Abstract:The primary purpose of the master's thesis was to examine in more detail the characteristic values of young people concerning their level of traditional religiosity and spiritual orientation in ten South-Eastern European countries. The research was conducted using the method of secondary data analysis using the SPSS program. We used data from the FES Youth Studies Southeast Europe 2018/2019 survey, which was conveyed based on representative samples of young people in ten Southeast European countries. The results of the analyses show that spirituality and religiosity are seemingly very similar matters. However, each showcases very different values and beliefs of young people. So-called »traditional values« that refer to preserving traditions, past customs, and beliefs are expressed more fully in young people who are more religious. Those values are family values, values of loyalty in a relationship, nationalism, authoritarianism, and also power and achievement values. In contrast to previous research, we found that the value of individual autonomy is also more present in young people who are more devout. This also applies to the value of education and the value of health, which increase with the level of religiosity as well as with the level of spirituality but are more noticeable in more devout young people. By contrast, more spiritually oriented young people are more receptive to values that depart from tradition and coincide with modernization processes. According to our findings, these relate mainly to a higher tolerance towards abortion and homosexuality, as well as to the values of political activity.
