Abstract:Uvod: Kajenje predstavlja glavni vzrok smrti po vsem svetu, katerega je možno preprečiti.

Title:Acupuncture and smoking cessation
Abstract:Introduction: Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. It is known that tobacco use is one of the main risk factors that contributes to the development of many chronic diseases. Quitting smoking is therefore a key factor in reducing such consequences. In addition to the many methods for smoking cessation, acupuncture is increasingly being used. The aim of the thesis is to investigate effectiveness of acupuncture on smoking cessation. Methods: We conducted a literature review on the effectiveness of acupuncture in smoking cessation using a descriptive method with the method of analysis and synthesis. To obtain the most relevant evidence, we employed the PIO research question, which provided us with an extensive and systematic literature search in the PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and ScienceDirect databases. We used the hierarchy of evidence to assess the quality of the selected research. Results: Out of 130 identified records we have included 7 studies in the final analysis. Several studies demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture in smoking cessation, and in some cases, acupuncture can serve as a motivation to quit smoking. Acupuncture has also helped alleviate withdrawal syndromes, indicating that it plays a key role in preventing relapse. Discussion and conclusion: Acupuncture has been found to be particularly effective in smokers who are motivated to quit smoking. However, more extensive research on acupuncture and smoking cessation would be necessary to confirm its effectiveness.
