Title:Economic and business uncertainty in the United States
Abstract:Uncertainty is an uncertain situation that affects various aspects of life and economics. In economics, uncertainty can affect investment decisions, consumer confidence, and political strategies. Extreme uncertainty can hinder economic and political stability and growth, but dealing with it properly can lead to better strategies and decisions. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the United States experienced significant economic uncertainty due to the global crisis, leading to unpredictable outcomes for businesses, consumers, and governments. Various indices are used to measure economic uncertainty, such as the Economic policy Index, which is based on media reports, and measures of stock market volatility. At the beginning of the pandemic, the volatility index was at its peak. February 2020 was a key month in the U.S. during the Corona Crisis in terms of economic indicators such as GDP and employment. In the U.S., economic uncertainty refers to the unpredictability of expected economic outcomes that affect the decisions of businesses and individuals. In the literature, the pandemic has been a central theme of research on economic uncertainty in the United States. Many authors have analysed the various aspects of the pandemic, from economic policy uncertainty to the impact on the economy of measures to contain the spread of the virus. On the other hand, economic uncertainty in the United States has become an important research topic in the last decade. This is closely related to economic policies that influence business investment decisions. During the Covid-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty in the U.S. increased dramatically due to a number of factors that affected the economy. Restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the virus negatively impacted many businesses, leading to mass layoffs and bankruptcies. Although the U.S. government took numerous measures to support the economy, many companies still suffered financial losses. While some companies, particularly in the technology sector, took advantage of the opportunities the pandemic brought, the recovery was unevenly distributed, with larger companies having more opportunities to adapt to the new conditions. Post-pandemic uncertainty has remained, and global trade and supply chains are struggling. The long-term impact of the pandemic on consumer habits and working conditions remains unknown, leading to further uncertainty. Statistics show that business uncertainty during the pandemic had a significant impact on U.S. sales growth and employment. While some companies suffered losses, others, such as e-tailers and companies specialising in digital services, increased their sales.
