Abstract:V zadnjih desetletjih smo priča izrazitemu porastu rabe spleta.

Title:Validation of the Slovenian Version of the Compulsive Internet Use Scale
Abstract:In recent decades, we have seen a significant increase in internet use. While it brings a great deal of benefits and makes day-to-day life easier in many ways, the internet also contains various hidden dangers, such as compulsive use. Verified and valid measurement tools are required to better understand this phenomenon, but are currently not available in many languages, including Slovene. The purpose of this master's thesis was to translate the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) into Slovene using back-translation, verify its psychometric properties and confirm whether it fits a single-factor structure as expected. The study had a final sample of 446 participants between the ages of 15 and 88 who filled out a battery of questionnaires online. We used confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that the Slovenian version of CIUS fits a single-factor structure, with a high degree of internal consistency. The scale adaptation also displayed adequate convergent validity, as it had a negative correlation with self-control and a positive correlation with problematic internet use and private time spent online. The results also indicate appropriate discriminant validity, as the scale had a negligible or weak correlation with acceptance and openness. It also positively predicted depression, anxiety and stress, displaying good predictive validity. In spite of certain limitations of the study, the results showed that the Slovenian version of the CIUS has satisfactory psychometric properties, which means that a valid and reliable measurement tool for compulsive internet use is now available in Slovene.
