Title:Weight loss methods after childbirth
Abstract:Introduction: Most women do not return to their pre-pregnancy weight for several months or even years after giving birth. This makes them susceptible to subsequent overweight or obesity. The final aim was to identify the most effective methods for weight reduction in postnatal women. Methods: The descriptive method was used in the final work. We systematically reviewed the scientific literature on postpartum weight loss methods, searching PubMed, CINAHL and Web of Science databases. To interpret the results, we used content analysis of selected studies. Results: Of the 407 identified studies, we included seven research studies in the analysis. We found that interventions focusing primarily on dietary are the most effective for weight loss. Breastfeeding and physical activity as stand-alone methods contribute marginally to weight loss. Discussion and conclusion: The most effective weight loss methods after childbirth are different eating regimes, especially low-glycaemic index diets and high-protein diets. Support from a partner and health professionals is also important.
