Title:Design and energy efficient management of major refrigeration systems
Abstract:In the master thesis, a basic and an advanced refrigeration system for a specific case was investigated and described. The basic refrigeration system was presented as a reference starting point and then the focus was on the development of a more advanced solution. The performance of both systems was analysed and compared in detail. The advanced refrigeration system included innovative components and an approach to achieve better energy efficiency and higher performance of the system as a whole. Particular attention was paid to the defrost sensor that was integrated in the advanced system. This sensor allowed the ice thickness on the evaporator surfaces to be monitored accurately. This allowed the system to be adjusted to the actual defrost sensor, which contributed to better system performance and lower energy consumption. By carrying out comparative calculations, it was shown that the advanced refrigeration systems offer significant savings in electricity consumption compared to the baseline system. These savings were the result of better control, optimised use of components and adjusting the operation of the refrigeration system to the actual conditions.
