Title:Preventive work of the police: alcohol in traffic - a comparison between Slovenia and Croatia
Abstract:The thesis entitled Preventive Work of the Police: Alcohol in Traffic – A Comparison between Slovenia and Croatia contains statistics on traffic accidents and prevention programmes in Slovenia and Croatia for a period of five years, between 2017 and 2021. The aim of the thesis was to compare prevention programmes in Slovenia and Croatia and to determine which country has been more successful in this area. We examined how alcohol affects the individual and how a person under the influence of alcohol acts in traffic. We also investigated and presented statistics on road accidents and their consequences in Slovenia and Croatia, as well as statistics on road accidents caused by an alcohol-impaired driver. We have also examined the legal basis in these countries for penalties in the field of alcohol in traffic. Last but not least, we have presented the preventive actions carried out by the police forces of the two countries and compared their results. During the five-year period under study, the Croatian police carried out more preventive actions than the Slovenian police, but due to the different way of carrying out the actions and recording the results, it is difficult to say which country was more successful in its work. The number of accidents involving drunk-drivers in both countries has fluctuated minimally over the years, which means that there has been no drastic change in this area. For ease of comparison, the police should carry out prevention activities in the same way.
