Ženske teroristke so prikazane skozi različne vidike, vključno z viktimizacijo, demonizacijo, seksualizacijo, poudarjanjem fizičnega izgleda, stereotipnih vlog, sodelovanja iz ljubezni in neuspešnih materinskih vlog.

Title:Terrorism and media representation of female terrorists in the light of feminist theories
Abstract:In terrorist organizations, females play significant roles that vary based on the level of involvement – sympathizers, spies, warriors, and dominant forces – with their participation in terrorist activities steadily increasing. The presence of the female gender is crucial in separatist movements such as the LTTE and Chechen Black Widows, where female suicide attackers are integral members of the groups. The motives of female terrorists for engaging in terrorism can be coercive or voluntary, often differing from the motivations of male terrorists. An analysis of the media representation of female terrorists through a feminist lens reveals that stereotypical perceptions of women and terrorism influence their media portrayal. Female terrorists are depicted through various aspects, including victimization, demonization, sexualization, emphasis on physical appearance, stereotypical roles, love-based involvement, and unsuccessful maternal roles. Media coverage employs a combination of these aspects, influencing social structures, public opinion, and the perception of this phenomenon. Media reporting differs quantitatively and qualitatively between female and male terrorists. Coverage of their actions exposes gender biases, while terrorist organizations exploit these stereotypes. There is a need to recognize women as active actors in terrorism and critically reflect on media representations that typically subordinate women to traditional roles. Media portrayals often serve to reinforce patriarchal constructions of femininity, threatening traditional depictions of women. Through stereotypical and victimized portrayals of female terrorists, their active role in operations is obscured.
