Abstract:V magistrski nalogi sta predstavljena nagrada desetnica in kronološki pregled podeljevanja nagrade, analizirana pa so tudi nagrajena dela. V teoretičnem delu sta predstavljena nagrada desetnica in Društvo slovenskih pisateljev, v okviru katerega deluje Sekcija za otroško in mladinsko književnost.

Title:Desetnica: literary award for children's and youth literature
Abstract:This master thesis presents the Desetnica award and a chronological overview of the award, and analyses the award-winning works. The theoretical part introduces the Desetnica award and the Slovenian Writers' Association, which includes the Section for Children’s and Youth Literature. The Desetnica award is a literary award for the best children’s and youth work in poetry or prose. It is awarded on the basis of a selection of literary works prepared by an expert in youth's literature, and then a jury selects ten nominees from among these works. The jury decides on the winner and provides the reasons for its decision at the award ceremony, which takes place in May each year. Only a member of the Slovene Writers' Association can be nominated or awarded for the prize. The Desetnica award was first presented in 2004, when the jury was convinced by Mate Dolenc's literary work The Flying Ship. The main part consists of a chronological overview of the award and an analysis of the twenty-two award-winning literary works in the field of children’s and youth literature. Children’s and youth literature is among the most widely read domestic fiction, and is undoubtedly the foundation for children's reading habits and love of reading. The works analysed here can help the teacher when dealing with literary works in the Slovenian lessons. Both the nominated and the award-winning works can be used to prepare better reading lists for pupils.
Keywords:Desetnica award, Slovene Writers' Association, winners of the Desetnica award, nominees for the Desetnica award.
