Abstract:Uvod: Rak ščitnice je najpogostejša maligna bolezen endokrinega sistema.

Title:Quality of life of a thyroid cancer patient after radioactive iodine therapy
Abstract:Introduction: Thyroid cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer that affects the endocrine system. Typically, patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer undergo thyroidectomy, which involves the removal of the thyroid gland. After the gland removal, most patients opt for radioactive iodine therapy. As part of this study, the objective is to examine the challenges patients encounter after undergoing radioactive iodine therapy and their overall quality of life. Methods: Our study delved into the scientific literature on the quality of life experienced by patients who received radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer, and we employed specific criteria to determine which studies to incorporate. Our methodology was descriptive, and we conveyed the results through an assessment table and a summary of our discoveries. Additionally, we conducted content analysis to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the data. Results: A thorough analysis of five studies has identified common issues and limitations that thyroid cancer patients may experience during radioactive iodine treatment. Among the most frequently reported concerns are depression, diarrhea, xerostomia, dysphagia, respiratory problems, pain, and fatigue. Interestingly, alopecia appears to be the least problematic side effect reported by patients who underwent radioactive iodine therapy. Discussion and conclusion: Upon receiving specific doses of radioactive iodine, patients must follow self-isolation guidelines at home. This treatment is beneficial in enhancing patient survival rates and enabling a longer life span. While there may be unfavorable effects during and after the treatment process, the overall positive impact on the patients well-being makes it a valuable choice.
