Abstract:Uvod: Podnebne spremembe predstavljajo velik globalni izziv in zavedanje zdravstvenih delavcev o njihovih vplivih je ključnega pomena za zaščito zdravja. V zaključnem delu smo raziskovali percepcije zdravstvenih delavcev v Sloveniji o podnebnih spremembah, o njihovem vplivu na zdravje in o naslavljanju teh vplivov. V raziskavo so bili vključeni zdravstveni delavci z različnimi poklicnimi in demografskimi značilnostmi.

Title:Climate change and its effects on health and healthcare: perception of health professionals in Slovenia
Abstract:Introduction: Climate change is a major global challenge and health professionals' awareness of its impacts is crucial to protect health. In the study, we explored the perceptions of health professionals in Slovenia regarding climate change, its impact on health and their role in addressing these impacts. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional observational study using surveys distributed in five general hospitals across Slovenia. Healthcare professionals with different professional and demographic backgrounds were included. Results: Health professionals demonstrate awareness of climate change and recognize its impact on health within their environment. However, a substantial portion of respondents remain undecided about the role of their health facility in addressing these impacts. Despite the acknowledged role of health workers, many do not feel empowered to contribute to addressing this issue. We identified significant differences in perceptions among health workers based on various occupational and demographic characteristics, particularly in terms of education level and managerial responsibilities. Discussion and conclusion: Health professionals are cognizant of and concerned about the adverse effects of climate change on health, which presents an opportunity for broader discussions within healthcare settings and with patients. It is imperative to enhance the involvement of health professionals in addressing climate change-related health challenges through comprehensive information dissemination and training, enabling them to play a proactive role in mitigation efforts.
