Title:Developing musical skills in children's choir
Abstract:Every human being has a biological trait for development of musical skills at birth, which is why it is important to dedicate a significant portion of attention to musical development during the preschool period. In a children's choir, the conductor has a remarkable influence on the development of vocal abilities, as they must understand developmental psychology, since the development of musical skills in children progresses in parallel with their overall development. It is also crucial to understand psychophysical predispositions and the influence of the environment. Choir conductors encounter various singing difficulties in the choir, which can be addressed through vocal exercises aimed at shaping the children's voices. The empirical part of master's thesis consists of a survey conducted in March among 90 choir conductors of various children's choirs. We were particularly interested in whether musical skills are innate or acquired and hod conductors can influence the development of musical skills in a children's choir. The survey results indicate that the majority of conductors believe that musical skills are innate and that children with more developed musical skills find it easier to learn new pieces. The research has shown that through singing exercises, we can influence the development of vocal abilities in children, and targeted vocal exercises contribute to better technical performance of the piece.
