Abstract:To magistrsko delo preučuje vloge spinto soprana v operah Giuseppeja Verdija. Viri zajemajo več knjižnic in digitalnih podatkovnih zbirk, kar omogoča celovit vpogled v vlogo spinto soprana v Verdijevih opernih delih in njegov razvoj skozi čas.

Title:Roles for The Spinto Soprano in Verdi's operas
Abstract:This master's thesis investigates the spinto soprano voice type in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi. It aims to elucidate the "Fach system," detailing the characteristics and nuances of the spinto soprano voice. The study focuses on Verdi's operas, analyzing musical roles that necessitate this specific soprano type. One of objectives is to determine whether Verdi's compositions were driven solely by dramaturgy or if he had a particular voice type in mind. The research includes historical analysis of roles traditionally performed by spinto sopranos, examination of contemporary performers, and pedagogical methods for recognizing and nurturing young spinto sopranos. Methodologically, the thesis integrates archival research, literature review, musical score analysis, and an interview with renowned opera singer and pedagogue Elena Pankratova. Sources span multiple libraries and digital databases, providing a comprehensive understanding of the spinto soprano's role in Verdi's work and its evolution over time.
