Obravnava preteklo, trenutno in predvideno porabo fosilnih goriv s poudarkom na zemeljskem plinu v EU in primere nenadnih prekinitev dobave zemeljskega plina zaradi geopolitičnih razmer v svetu. Opisuje pomen utekočinjenega zemeljskega plina pri zanesljivi energetski preskrbi in prehodu k nizkoogljičnim virom. Predstavi, kako nam lahko uporaba utekočinjenega zemeljskega plina omogoča zmanjšanje emisij toplogrednih plinov v Evropi, pri čemer bo omenjen projekt »BLUE CORRIDOR PROJECT«. Opisuje terminale za pretovor utekočinjenega zemeljskega plina (pregled obstoječih in načrtovanih terminalov v Evropi), dolžine transportnih poti in tankerje, s katerimi prevažamo utekočinjen zemeljski plin.

Title:The importance and required infrastructure for LNG utilization in Europe
Abstract:The thesis addresses the significant dependence of Europe and, consequently, the European Union, on energy imports, as the EU imports more than 60% of its primary energy sources, including coal, oil, and natural gas. The EU is most dependent on the import of natural gas, with dependency rates exceeding 85% in recent years. Thesis describes the role of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Europe's energy supply and its importance in diversifying the supply routes of energy sources. It discusses the meaning of energy security and why the diversification of Europe's energy sources is crucial for its energy security. It examines past, current, and projected fossil fuel consumption, with a focus on natural gas in the EU, and examples of sudden interruptions in the supply of natural gas due to geopolitical conditions worldwide. The thesis outlines the importance of LNG in ensuring reliable energy supply and the transition to low-carbon energy sources. It presents how the use of LNG can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Europe, mentioning the "BLUE CORRIDOR PROJECT" in this context. It describes LNG transshipment terminals (an overview of existing and planned terminals in Europe), transport route lengths, and the tankers used to transport LNG.
