Title:Comparison of creative writing between grades 3 and 5 of basic school: picture story
Abstract:In the master's thesis titled "Comparison of creative writing between grades 3 and 5 of basic school: Picture story", the theoretical framework outlines the communicative activities that students encounter throughout their education, focusing on listening, speech development, reading, and writing. Emphasis is placed on speech, as it is fundamental to the development of children's writing and reading skills. Additionally, the thesis explores the concept of creativity and its manifestation in student writing. The empirical portion of this master's thesis employs a descriptive research method to analyse stories written by 3rd and 5th grade students attending an elementary school in the Slovenian Carinthia region, based on a series of pictures. The analysis focuses on their use of associative events, incorporation of personification and playful elements, and the titles chosen for their stories. The findings reveal that 5th grade students exhibited more elements of creative writing, though 3rd grade students also demonstrated considerable creativity, particularly in their ability to craft imaginative titles. Additionally, a survey questionnaire provided further insights into the interpretation of the written stories. The results showcasing the incorporation of various creative elements are presented in tables, while the findings from the survey questionnaire are depicted in graphs.
