Abstract:Uvod: Izguba sluha je najpogostejša senzorna motnja.

Title:Influence of adenoidectomy and vaccination on the frequency of infectious complications after the cohlear insertion
Abstract:Introduction: Hearing loss is the most common sensory disorder. The causes of hearing loss are acquired or congenital, the loss can occur in the prelingual or postlingual phase. The purpose of the master's thesis is to present the impact of adenoidectomy and pneumococcal vaccination in a child with an inserted cochlear implant on the occurrence of infectious complications after the inserted cochlear implant. Methods: we used a quantitative methodology and conducted a retrospective study. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to test the hypotheses. The sample included 228 children up to 18 years after cochlear implant placement. Results: Our results showed that unvaccinated children had statistically significantly fewer complications than vaccinated children (χ² = 6,05; p < 0,05), adenoidectomy before cochlear implantation had no effect on the incidence of infectious complications (χ² = 0,964; p < 0,05), and age younger than 3 years at the time of cochlear implantation was associated with a statistically significantly higher incidence of complications (χ² = 9,35; p > 0,05). Discussion and conclusion: We conclude that adenoidectomy is not essential in preventing infective complications, age at insertion influences the occurrence of infective complications, and vaccination is an important preventive measure to prevent infective complications after cochlear implantation, although we did not demonstrate this in our study.
