Abstract:V trenažni proces sodobne košarke se vse bolj vpleta kondicijska priprava, saj igra postaja bolj dinamična, hitrejša in tudi vedno bolj kontaktna. Igralci morajo ohranjati visoko raven intenzivnosti skozi celotno tekmo in daljše tekmovalno obdobje.

Title:A study of the plyometric training effects on basketball players` vertical jump
Abstract:As modern basketball becomes faster, more dynamic and contact-intensive, the increased importance of physical preparation within the sport becomes evident. Players must maintain a high level of intensity throughout the entire game and over longer competitive periods. Basketball is a game of speed, strength, and endurance, which manifests in aggressive behaviour. A player who jumps higher has an advantage in shooting, layups, rebounds, and blocks. Plyometrics is a type of exercise that offers the opportunity to improve a basketball player's game. It is characterized by eccentric-concentric muscle contraction, and its goal is to produce as much force as possible in the shortest amount of time. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the impact of plyometric training on the vertical jump height of a basketball player after a 6-week training process. The basketball player who participated in the study plays in the 1st Slovenian League, and the training process was carried out during the break leading up to the second part of the season. Measurements to determine the improvement in vertical jumps from a half-squat, counter-movement jumps, and depth jumps, as well as the influence of the training process on contact time during the jump and balance between legs, were conducted before and after the training process. The research did not show the expected positive effect on the vertical jump height of the subject. Some instances showed minimal improvement in jump height observations, while others even showed a decline. In the vertical jump from a counter-movement, the jump height minimally decreased. However, the training process did help reduce the difference between the right and left leg during the vertical jump, as well as aided in decreasing contact time.
