Abstract:Uvod: Pacienti v enoti intenzivne terapije pogosto potrebujejo sedacijo za obvladovanje vznemirjenja in bolečine. Izvedli smo pregled znanstvene in strokovne literature. Literaturo smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah Wiley Online Library, PubMed in CINAHL Ultimate. Identificirane raziskave smo razvrstili glede na hierarhično strukturo in jih analizirali ter predstavili v evalvacijski tabeli. Izvedli smo sintezo identificiranih raziskav. Rezultati: V podrobno analizo pa smo vključili osem raziskav. Prišli smo do ugotovitve, da uporaba sedacijskih protokolov pozitivno vpliva na klinične izide mehansko ventiliranih pacientov. Razprava in zaključek: Uporaba sedacijskih protokolov pri mehansko ventiliranih pacientih zmanjšuje trajanje hospitalizacije v enoti intenzivne terapije, potrebo po mehanski ventilaciji ter posledično stroške zdravljenja in smrtnost. Zaposleni v zdravstveni negi igrajo pomembno vlogo pri izvajanju sedacijskih protokolov.

Title:Impact of sedation protocol usage on clinical outcomes of mechanically ventilated patients
Abstract:Introduction: Patients in the intensive care unit often require sedation to manage agitation and pain. However, unmanaged sedation can negatively impact their health, which is why hospitals have introduced sedation protocols to achieve optimal sedation. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how sedation protocols affect clinical outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients. Methods: In the thesis, we employed a descriptive method of work. We conducted a review of scientific and professional literature. The literature was searched in databases such as Wiley Online Library, PubMed, and CINAHL Ultimate. The identified studies were classified according to a hierarchical structure, analyzed, and presented in an evaluation table. A synthesis of the identified studies was performed. Results: In the detailed analysis, we included eight studies. We concluded that the use of sedation protocols has a positive impact on the clinical outcomes of mechanically ventilated patients. Discussion and conclusion: The use of sedation protocols in mechanically ventilated patients reduces the length of stay in the intensive care unit, the need for mechanical ventilation, and consequently, the costs of treatment and mortality. Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in implementing these sedation protocols.
