Abstract:Magistrsko delo obravnava dogajanje tik pred normansko osvojitvijo Anglije leta 1066 in prikaže vladavino Viljema Osvajalca do leta 1087.

Title:The Norman conquest of England and the impact of the reign of William the Conqueror (1066-1087) on the society of medieval England
Abstract:The master's thesis addresses the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and examines the reign of William the Conqueror up to 1087. The aim of the master's thesis is to present how the conquest and William's reign changed the English society, administration and culture. The master's thesis utilizes primary sources, such as the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and the Domesday Book, alongside relevant scientific literature. The thesis is designed to provide a comprehensive overview, beginning with a description of the historical context and an overview of the primary sources. This is followed by a detailed account of the succession crisis that culminated in the Battle of Hastings (1066). The thesis takes us through the process of consolidating William's rule and shows the challenges he faced and how he overcame them. We delve deeper into the social transformations instigated by the Norman rule: the transformation of administrative and legal systems, shifts in the social hierarchy, and an analysis of the complex integration of Norman and Anglo-Saxon culture. William's cultural legacy is also seen through the lens of architectural progress, a comprehensive survey called the Domesday Book, and the creation of one of the most famous tapestries, the Bayeux Tapestry. The work concludes with an overview of the last years of William's reign and the question of his succession. The short-term and long-term consequences of the Norman conquest of England are presented, demonstrating how extensively the reign of William the Conqueror transformed English society.
