Abstract:V diplomskem delu smo raziskovali dve glavni vprašanji.

Title:Conversion of alternative non-food substrates into biogas minimizing water consumption in the process
Abstract:In this thesis, two main questions were investigated. The first question was whether corn straw could serve as an effective alternative to silage for biogas production. The second question focused on the impact of the dry matter content in mixtures on biogas production and the potential for reducing water consumption in the anaerobic digestion process. Two experiments were conducted, where different settings in three parallels were used to determine the efficiency of anaerobic digestion. The settings involved mixtures with chicken manure with bedding, corn straw or silage, and inoculum from an existing biogas plant. In the first experiment, corn silage was compared with corn straw from two different locations in two different ratios (basic and double straw content). In the second experiment, the most effective mixture was analyzed with varying dry matter content in the fermenter (2 % to 14 %). During both experiments, the composition and quantity of biogas and the degradation of substrates were monitored. In the first part of the research, it was found that corn straw can be a very effective alternative to silage. Corn straw produced comparable amounts of biogas, confirming its potential for use in the anaerobic digestion process. This finding has significant economic implications, as the use of corn straw can reduce raw material costs and increase production efficiency. The results were compared with those from the previous studies using straw and silage from different harvest years. The comparison showed minimal differences in the results, confirming the consistency and reliability of the findings, regardless of the variability in substrate locations and harvest years. In the second part of the research, which focused on the impact of dry matter content in the fermenter, it was found that higher dry matter content allows for reduced water consumption in the process while maintaining biogas production efficiency. The results showed that mixtures with higher dry matter content achieved comparable results to those with lower dry matter content, enabling more sustainable water and resource management.
