Abstract:Magistrsko delo predstavlja analizo opolnomočenja in emancipacije Disneyjevih princes v izbranih pesmih od leta 1937 do leta 2019. Opolnomočenje in emancipacija sta gonilni sili družbenih sprememb, predvsem feminizma. Preverjali smo še, kako njihove predstave sovpadajo z opolnomočenjem in emancipacijo v času, v katerem so bile izdane.

Title:An Analysis of the Empowerment and Emancipation of Disney Princesses in Selected Songs from 1937 to 2019
Abstract:The master's thesis considers the analysis of the empowerment and emancipation of Disney princesses in selected songs. Empowerment and emancipation are the driving forces of social change, especially in feminism. In their animated films, Disney princesses reflect the social context in which they were produced and released. Therefore, we were interested in whether their portrayals reflect these social changes – feminist waves, empowerment, emancipation, and changes in fashion. With a qualitative analysis of the content of lyrics and music videos from selected 14 songs at both explicit and implicit levels, we aimed to depict the development of empowerment and emancipation of Disney princesses from 1937 to 2019. We also examined how their portrayals aligned with empowerment and emancipation when they were released. The study revealed that Disney princess portrayals coincide with feminist waves. Over the course of 82 years, there has been a development from passive, fate-bound princesses to empowered and emancipated queens with the power to rule. It is recomended to keep up with this trend in the future and escalate it.
