Abstract:Diplomsko delo raziskuje etične izzive tekstilne industrije v državah tretjega sveta, kjer delavci pogosto delajo v neetičnih pogojih, kot so nizke plače, nevarni delovni pogoji in dolgi delavniki.

Title:Assessing the ethical performance of textile companies in third world countries
Abstract:The thesis examines the ethical challenges of the textile industry in third-world countries, where workers often operate in unethical conditions, such as low wages, hazardous working environments, and inhumane working hours. Fast fashion, which relies on mass production at low prices, further exacerbates these issues, as companies move their manufacturing operations to countries with low labor standards, leading to labor exploitation and serious environmental consequences. The thesis focuses on analyzing corporate sustainability reports in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards to assess how companies are addressing these challenges. Sustainability reporting is a key tool for increasing corporate transparency and accountability to stakeholders. In the thesis, we examined companies that regularly report according to GRI standards, with some doing so more consistently than others. Nevertheless, several of these companies have already been involved in unethical practices. We analyzed how these companies responded after being exposed for unethical behavior and how they adjusted their business models to improve compliance with ethical standards. Some have adopted more sustainable practices, improved working conditions, and increased transparency, while others have made only minimal changes to preserve their public image. However, achieving lasting change in these conditions is extremely challenging, as current business models and global demand seem to support continued exploitation. Without significant global shifts and the establishment of higher ethical standards, working conditions in these regions will likely remain inhumane and harmful to all involved.
