Title:Effect of mirror therapy on the relief of phantom pain in amputation patients
Abstract:Introduction: After amputation, you may experience pain in the limb that was amputated - this is called phantom pain. This type of pain has a high prevalence and patients can benefit from both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, including mirror therapy. It is an inexpensive and simple method of relieving phantom pain and its effectiveness has been confirmed by numerous studies. Methods: The descriptive method of literature review and analysis was used in the final work. CINAHL, PubMed and ScienceDirect databases were searched for peer-reviewed articles on the effect of mirror therapy on phantom pain relief in amputees. A PRISMA diagram is used to show the process of literature search, and a hierarchy of evidence is used to show the strength, reliability and relevance of the studies. Results: 9 studies were included in the final analysis, most of them confirmed the effect of mirror therapy on reducing phantom pain in amputees, but the authors agreed on the lack of high-quality research for this topic. Discussion and conclusion: Mirror therapy has proven to be an effective alternative treatment for phantom pain in amputees. It should be performed regularly for effective results. It can be used in combination with other alternative methods, but even more effective than mirror therapy alone is the combination with tactile stimulation.
