Abstract:Diplomsko delo analizira razvoj in vlogo javnega sektorja v gospodarstvu v obdobju od leta 2000 do 2023. V teoretičnem delu naloga obravnava definicijo javnega sektorja, njegov pomen, strukturo, zgodovino in teoretične perspektive o njegovi vlogi.

Title:The Role of the Public Sector in the Economy Over Time: A Comparative Analysis Between EU Member Countries, the UK, and the US
Abstract:The thesis analyses the development and role of the public sector in the economy over the period 2000-2023. The thesis focuses on the role of the public sector in the economy and a comparative analysis between the EU Member States, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The aim of the research is to review the progress of the public sector and its impact on economic growth, development and stability. The research is based on an analysis of secondary sources, including academic literature, statistics and reports from relevant institutions. In the theoretical part, the thesis discusses the definition of the public sector, its meaning, structure, history and theoretical perspectives on its role. In the empirical part, the thesis analyses various indicators that measure the characteristics and performance of the public sector. The empirical part analyses different variables or indicators of public sector characteristics, such as the share of the public sector in GDP, public sector debt, public sector employment and government deficit and expenditure for selected years in the period 2000-2023. In this thesis, we compare the public sectors of different countries, focusing on their differences and similarities. In particular, we examine how the public sector has contributed to economic performance, stability and response to economic crises and other major challenges over the period under consideration. Based on the findings, the thesis shows which key factors influence the performance and efficiency of the public sector in different countries.
