Title:Cryptocurrencies as a parallel system
Abstract:The topic of the thesis is the establishment of cryptocurrencies as an effective parallel financial system that operates independently of traditional banking institutions. Traditional financial systems face numerous challenges arising from their centralized nature. Among the biggest problems are the high transaction costs, especially in international money transfers, where intermediaries such as banks and financial institutions charge high fees and slow down the process. In contrast, decentralized financial systems based on blockchain technology offer solutions to these problems. They enable direct transactions between users without intermediaries, which reduces costs and increases the speed of transactions. Decentralization also reduces the risk of systemic failure, as there is no single point of failure, and it allows for more equitable access to financial services, as they are open to anyone with internet access. Despite their high potential, decentralized systems also bring their own challenges, such as issues related to security, regulation, and user protection. In the thesis, we first presented the basic concepts of cryptocurrencies and provided a detailed analysis of blockchain technology, which is the main element of decentralized systems. We then analyzed the challenges in the field of regulation and examined the existing regulation and the different approaches that countries have taken in the field of cryptocurrencies. We also addressed challenges in the areas of investor protection, crime prevention, and the impact of regulation on the development of cryptocurrencies. Finally, we discussed the future of cryptocurrencies as a parallel system, focusing on technological advances in blockchain technology, potential compatibility with existing financial systems, and the shaping of the future of finance. The results show that cryptocurrencies have the potential to become an important part of the global financial system, but their long-term success depends on the continued development of technology, regulatory frameworks, and public trust.
