Abstract:Namen diplomske naloge je bil raziskati, kako se pomoč in mentoriranje startupom prilagaja, kakšne oblike pomoči so jim na voljo ter dotično spoznati, kako deluje sistem mentorstva na primeru univerzitetnega inkubatorja Tovarna podjemov.

Title:Analysis of the role of mentorship in startups on the examples of Tovarne podjemov
Abstract:The purpose of this thesis was to explore how support and mentoring for startups are adapted, what types of assistance are available to them, and to specifically examine how the mentoring system operates in the case of the university incubator, Tovarna podjemov. In the theoretical part, we analyzed startup companies, which are known for their specific characteristics, that areimportant for their further development and provision of specialized support. It is necessary to consider their traits, such as a high level of innovation, rapid growth, and risk, as well as the significance of a supportive environment. There are many different types of mentoring, their roles, and the key elements of successful mentoring based on foreign examples. Special emphasis was placed on distinguishing between incubators and accelerators, which provide startups with various forms of support, ranging from physical infrastructure to substantive and financial assistance, with a particular focus on their mental well-being. The empirical research included interviews with a consultant, mentor, and mentee, as well as an analysis of their collaboration. The focus was on the entire process, examining the alignment between mentors and mentees, which is the work of the consultant, and the effectiveness of mentoring, as well as the key challenges faced by startups and mentors during the mentoring process. The results showed that successful mentoring depends on the appropriate adaptation of the mentoring process to the specific needs of companies, the active involvement of both parties, and that a well-planned mentoring program contributes to the mental health of entrepreneurs as well as time saved, thanks to the guidance of experienced mentors. Critical analysis and suggestions for improvement include greater self-criticism from both parties, transparent communication, and better information about state support for startups.
