Title:Determining pressure drops in pipelines considering friction coefficient
Abstract:Determining the pressure drop in a pipeline is a problem in which we can choose several different ways to arrive at a result. The method we choose can affect the accuracy of the result and it is therefore important to know the advantages and disadvantages of the methods available to us. The goal of the assignment is to present the topic of determining the pressure drop, to present some theoretical models that are used, to show how we go about solving the problem and to evaluate the results obtained with different methods of determining the pressure drop. To discuss the topic, we used literature, research articles and other sources available to us. For a detailed understanding of the topic, we have created a computer tool that is capable of accurately determining the coefficient of friction and, consequently, the pressure drop. To compare the results, we made measurements on a real case and were thus able to evaluate the results obtained by using different methods of determining the pressure drop. Through the task, we find out that the exact determination of the coefficient of friction is a time-consuming process that does not justify the accuracy of determining the pressure drop, compared to the determination of the coefficient of friction by simpler methods, such as determination using Moody's diagram or approximative equations.
