Razlike v plačni konkurenčnosti so tesno povezane s produktivnostjo dela in stroški dela. Večja produktivnost držav se odraža v višjih plačah in omogoča ohranitev konkurenčnosti države, medtem ko lahko visoki stroški dela brez ustrezne produktivnosti negativno vplivajo na konkurenčnost držav. V pričujočem diplomskem delu izpostavljamo tri poglavitne ugotovitve o plačni konkurenčnosti držav evroobmočja, in sicer: približevanje produktivnosti dela slovenskega in portugalskega gospodarstva povprečni produktivnosti dela evroobmočja, hitrejša rast njunih stroškov dela na enoto proizvoda od povprečja evroobmočja in pa višja raven stroškov dela od povprečja evroobmočja v zasebnem sektorju Belgije, Nemčije in Francije.

Title:The wage competitiveness of selected euro area members
Abstract:Wage competitiveness refers to a country's ability to attract and retain a workforce, therefore gaining a competitive advantage in the global economy. For countries with a common currency, the absence of their own monetary policy makes it particularly more important to take advantage of the benefits of their internal market to enhance competitiveness. Despite connection between markets within euro area, differences arise between countries in terms of economic sustainability, growth and wage competitiveness, which can lead to macroeconomic imbalances within the currency area or create pressure in the labour market. Differences in wage competitiveness are closely tied to labour productivity and labour costs. Higher productivity in countries is reflected in higher wages and it helps to maintain national competitiveness, while high labour costs without corresponding productivity can negatively affect country's competitiveness. In our paper we emphasize three key findings about wage competitiveness of euro area countries, which are labour productivity convergence of Slovenian and Portuguese economy towards average of the euro area, accelerated growth of their unit labour costs and the higher level of labour costs than the euro area average in private sector of Belgium, Germany and France.
