Abstract:Pleveli v vrstnem prosotru so jablanam konkurenčni za hranila in vodo, zato se v standardni tehnologiji pridelave rastlinstvo v pasu pod drevesi zatira z uporabo herbicidov.

Title:Autoregulatory in-row non-competitive plant communities in apple orchards
Abstract:Weeds growing in row space compete with apple trees for nutrients and water. This aforementioned detrimental competition is why herbicides are used to control the vegetation in the strip below the trees in standard apple growing systems. Recently, the use of alternative weed control measures has been on the rise. One of these measures is the sowing of cover crops. In 2021 and 2023, as part of the »IPM works« project, we tested the feasibility of an autoregulatory undergrowth system in the strip under apple trees at the Marko Farm. The aim of the experiment was to determine the impact of autoregulatory undergrowth on the fruit quality and quantity, and on the vegetative growth of apple trees. In the apple tree rows, a mixture of flowering annuals, flowering perennials and soybeans was sown. The results obtained show that over the years the sown autoregulatory undergrowth effectively prevails over the native vegetation present in the apple orchard row spaces. Soybeans have a positive effect on the annual shoot increment of apple trees. Native undergrowth and flowering annuals have a positive effect on the increase in trunk volume of apple trees. The yield of apples in the treatments sown with autoregulatory undergrowth is comparable to the amount of yield in the treatment with the native undergrowth. According to the results of the experiment, the introduction of living mulch from different flowering mixtures into the row space of the orchard was effective in terms of suppressing native undergrowth and had no effect on the quantity and quality of the apple fruits.
