Abstract:Delo v zdravstveni negi je odgovorno in zahtevno, kajti skrb za pacienta in njegove potrebe predstavlja prioriteto vsaki medicinski sestri.

Title:Stress among nurses in the emergency room
Abstract:Work in nursing is both responsible and demanding, as caring for patients and addressing their needs is a top priority for every nurse. In addition to providing nursing care, they often face many other stressful situations. Unpredictable scenarios are particularly characteristic of emergency department nurses. This master's thesis consists of theoretical and empirical sections. For the theoretical part, we reviewed Slovenian and foreign literature. We explored the main stressors at work, causes of burnout, consequences of burnout for employees and organizations, and the most effective strategies for managing stress among employees. In the empirical section, aligned with the research objectives and hypotheses, we conducted a study based on a descriptive quantitative method – a cross-sectional survey. Data were collected using a questionnaire among employees in two emergency departments. The survey was conducted from mid-May to early August 2024. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel 2016, followed by analysis with descriptive and inferential statistics. Hypotheses were tested using IBM SPSS version 29.0 for Microsoft Windows (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). One respondent (2.1%) rated their stress level at work as high, which was statistically significantly lower than the expected 70% (binomial test = 32.0294; p < 0.001). Women reported feeling nervous and stressed more frequently than men in the past month (U = 140.000; p = 0.049). Similarly, women felt overwhelmed by accumulated problems more often than men (U = 141.000; p = 0.050). Longer work experience was associated with better coping with life changes and events (r = 0.334; p = 0.020). Shift work was cited as a stress factor by 11 (22.9%) respondents, which was statistically significantly lower than the expected 70% (binomial test = 15.558; p < 0.001). Burnout levels were statistically significantly lower than expected (> 75 points on the CBI) across all three dimensions (p < 0.001). Burnout levels did not differ significantly by gender, education level, work experience, or age (p > 0.05).
