Abstract:Trajnostno načrtovanje sistemov postaja vedno bolj pomembno za nadaljnji razvoj sodobne družbe. V prvem delu smo primerjali dejanski in integriran kemijski proces.

Title:Integration between dryer and evaporator in the plant of sugar production
Abstract:Sustainable systems design is becoming increasingly more important for the continued development of modern society. In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the coming decade, a variety of objectives needs to be addressed, including economic, environmental and social issues. This master thesis addresses the challenge of reconstructing the existing sugar production process in Ormož, which consists of several processes. Our task was to integrate a dryer with an evaporator in the chemical process. Water vapour was emitted into the atmosphere as a by-product, as the plants were not built in the past in a completely energy-efficient, economically viable and effective way. We wanted to improve the process by using the steam as a source of revenue. In the first part, we compared the existing process with the integrated chemical process. We demonstrated the real production process and our conceptual integration. To verify real data, we utilized the Aspen Plus software. The existing evaporator is heated by low-pressure steam extracted from the furnace. The current evaporator heating system could be replaced by integrating the dryer with the evaporator, thereby increasing the inlet air temperature to the dryer by 40 °C. Consequently, the heating in the furnace that warms the air before entering the dryer would also increase by 40°C. In the second part, we conducted a further economic calculation to confirm whether simulating the proposed process would be worthwhile. The calculations gave us the results that the integrated process would have higher revenues than expenses. As a final result, we concluded that the actual sugar production process could be improved by integrating the existing process.
