Title:Designing a Portable Hydroponic system for Indoor Plant Production
Abstract:Year after year, with the increase in the world's population, the pressure on people in the agricultural sector to produce larger amounts of food with the existing technology and methods is also increasing. As a result, traditional agricultural practices present an ever-increasing burden on the environment because they consume limited resources irrationally, interfere with the ecosystem through negative operations, and at the same time, due to the abandonment of farming in small local areas, the transport routes from the field that produced food to the shelves in stores are longer than before. The thesis presents the technical planning and designing of a prototype portable hydroponic system that can be transported to any location with the help of a C-category truck. The planned prototype hydroponic system could in practice present a new milestone in terms of local food production, as it is planned in a way that allows it to be placed in practically any environment. After the successful design of a portable prototype hydroponic system in the engineering program SolidWorks 2022, basic calculations were made that showed the advantages in the production of the selected crop (lettuce) between traditional production in soil and production in the prototype system. It was VI found that in the planned system, without the use of phytopharmaceuticals (FFS), it is possible to produce a significantly larger amount of lettuces on the same surface throughout the year, regardless of external climatic conditions at significantly lower production costs. Because the prototype system is mobile, easy to maintain and its placement does not require special permits and approvals from the state authorities, and, at the same time, enables local production of fresh food, we doubt the usefulness of traditional cultivation in the soil, which is still based on the use of large amounts of FFS, expensive agricultural machinery and long transport chains.
