Abstract:Izmensko delo predstavlja nepogrešljiv del zdravstvene obravnave, pri čemer je kontinuirana oskrba pacientov ključna. Anketiranci so bili razdeljeni glede na dva različna modela izmenskega dela: 12 ur dnevna, 12 ur nočna izmena ter 7 ur dopoldne, 7 ur popoldne in 7 ur ponoči. Zbrani podatki so bili analizirani s pomočjo deskriptivne statistike. Vendar so razlike zelo majhne in statistično neznačilne.

Title:Impact of Shift Work Models on the Well-being of Nurses in the Emergency Room
Abstract:Shift work represents an indispensable part of healthcare, where the continuous care of patients is crucial. Healthcare personnel working in emergency departments face challenges such as misalignment of schedules with biological and social rhythms, which can lead to deteriorating physical and mental well-being. The aim of this final thesis is to investigate the impact of shift work on sleep and job satisfaction, determine how different shift work models affect nurses' health, well-being, and satisfaction, and develop recommendations for improving their work environment. The study included 105 nurses from four emergency departments. A quantitative approach was employed, collecting data through anonymous written questionnaires. Participants were divided into two groups based on two shift work models: 12-hour day and night shifts or 7-hour morning, afternoon, and 10-hour night shifts. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that nurses working in the 12-hour shift model rated the organization of their free time slightly better but more often reported poorer health and greater dissatisfaction compared to those in the 7-hour shift model. However, these differences were minimal and statistically insignificant. Nurses working multiple consecutive night shifts reported longer sleep durations between shifts, though not necessarily better quality. Subjective assessments of sleep quality and duration were higher among those who went to bed earlier after night shifts. Individuals who experienced lower sleep quality and shorter sleep durations were found to be more dissatisfied. No significant correlation between longer years of service and decreased job satisfaction was observed. The study did not identify significant advantages of one shift work model over the other. Therefore, we recommend that the choice of a shift work model be tailored to the specific needs of the work environment, while employees should consider their individual preferences when selecting their work schedule. To improve sleep quality after night shifts, enabling early rest immediately after the shift is suggested. Additionally, we found that despite its importance, the field of shift work is relatively under-researched, and we encourage further studies to enhance working conditions and improve employee satisfaction.
