Abstract:Uvod: Obravnava pacienta s kirurško rano predstavlja pomembno področje zdravstvene nege in predstavlja bistven del dela medicinskih sester.

Title:Wound care practices in surgical nursing
Abstract:Introduction: The management of a patient with a surgical wound is an important area of nursing care and constitutes an essential part of the work of nurses. It involves several activities, from wound care to patient education. It represents a multidisciplinary activity that includes physiological and immunological processes, physical and social factors. Methods: The master's thesis is based on a quantitative research methodology, with which we wanted to determine the practice of nursing care of surgical wounds among nursing employees in the surgical field. We conducted a cross-sectional observational study, and data were collected using a survey technique. Results: 97 employees participated in the survey. The two main areas of competence for nurses caring for patients with surgical wounds are knowledge, skills and performance in etiology and care; and wound management and assessment. According to the analysis of the results, we find that there is no difference in the practice of nursing care of surgical wounds according to the achieved level of education of nursing employees, and we also found that there is a weak negative relationship between the practice of nursing care of surgical wounds and the number of years of service. Discussion and conclusion: The practice of surgical wound care is crucial for quality and comprehensive treatment of patients with surgical wounds. The research showed that nurses' knowledge of wound care is encouraging, as nurses themselves are aware of the consequences of improper and inadequate care of surgical wounds.
