Abstract:Med avgustom 2022 in aprilom 2023 je bil v eksaktnih poljskih poskusih izvedenih na šestih KG v petih SR Slovenije proučevan vpliv roka setve (1. rok – avgust; 2. rok – september) prezimnih dosevkov: mnogocvetne ljuljke (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in inkarnatke (Trifolium incarnatum L.) na pridelek SS in parametre kakovosti pridelka (vsebnost N, P, K, SB, SM, SP, SVL, NDF, ADF in NEL).

Title:Species selection and quality of plants for winter soil cover
Abstract:Between August 2022 and April 2023, field experiments were conducted on six agricultural holdings in five statistical regions of Slovenia, in order to study the impact of sowing time (1st term – August; 2nd term – September) in the winter cover crops: Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) on dry matter yield (DM) and forage quality parameters (content of N, P, K, crude protein (CP), crude ash (CA), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and net energy for lactation (NEL)). The results indicated that higher DM yields were achieved before overwintering for Italian ryegrass and crimson clover sown in the first term, compared to later sowing. However, later sowing (2nd term) allowed for a better plant regeneration in spring. Statistical differences in forage quality were observed between the two plant species, but the sowing time did not significantly affect their quality parameters. Crimson clover proved to be a nutritionally richer crop (with higher CP and mineral content), while Italian ryegrass retained slightly higher NEL values, confirming their suitability for producing high-quality forage regardless of sowing time. The research confirmed that earlier sowing enables higher yields before overwintering, while later sowing improves plant resistance to winter conditions. Winter cover crops significantly contribute to improving soil quality, reducing nutrient losses, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and producing high-quality forage as well.
