| Abstract: | Slovenia, as a member of the European Union, is committed to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, with the primary objective of reaching climate neutrality and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Renewable energy sources (RES), such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy, are expected to play a key role in meeting these goals. However, the variability of RES poses challenges for the power grid. One potential solution to these challenges is the use of energy storage systems, such as batteries and hydrogen. Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, can be produced from renewable energy sources, stored, and later converted back into electricity. Despite its potential, hydrogen faces significant challenges, including low efficiencies and high costs, particularly if not produced from renewable energy surpluses. To evaluate the feasibility of hydrogen systems, an economic analysis of a hydrogen system was conducted in this study. |
