Abstract:	Uvod: Nekatere bakterije iz rodu Bacillus imajo dokazane izredno koristne probiotične lastnosti za ljudi in za živali, prav tako se lahko uporabljajo tudi kot podpora pri zdravljenju različnih bolezenskih stanj. Vendar so bolj poznani kot patogeni, saj lahko nekateri sevi bakterij iz rodu Bacillus povzročajo tudi zastrupitve s hrano in bolezni. Naš namen je bil raziskati seznanjenost bakterij iz rodu Bacillus v vlogi probiotikov in patogenov pri zdravstvenih delavcih. Metode: Uporabili smo kvantitativno metodologijo. Izvedli smo pregled tuje in domače literature na temo bakterij iz rodu Bacillus in bakterij iz rodu Bacillus v vlogi probiotika oziroma patogena. Raziskavo smo izvedli s pomočjo anketnega vprašalnika. V njej je sodelovalo 50 zaposlenih zdravstvenih delavcev na primarni ravni zdravstvenega varstva. Pri analizi podatkov smo izvedli opisno statistiko. Rezultate smo predstavili v obliki grafov. Rezultati: Ugotovili smo, da je večina anketirancev že slišala za bakterije iz rodu Bacillus, vendar jih bolje poznajo kot patogene. Anketiranci so seznanjeni s pojmom probiotiki in nekaterimi njihovimi pozitivnimi vplivi na zdravje. Prav tako poznajo pomen besede patogen in poznajo nekaj patogenih vrst bakterij iz rodu Bacillus. Razprava in sklep: Kljub temu da zdravstveni delavci ves čas izvajamo promocijo zdravja, včasih pozabljamo, da moramo začeti pri sebi. Ker anketiranci poznajo bakterije iz rodu Bacillus v večini le kot patogen, bi morda bilo dobro organizirati krajšo delavnico/seminar, kjer bi osvežili znanje zdravstvenih delavcev o probiotikih in jih spomnili, da imajo določene bakterije lahko tudi pozitiven učinek na zdravje.

Title:	Health care workers and their awareness with bacteria from the genus Bacillus as probiotics and pathogens
Abstract:	Introduction: Some bacteria from the genus Bacillus have proven highly beneficial probiotic properties for both humans and animals and can also be used to support the treatment of various medical conditions. However, they are more commonly known as pathogens, as certain strains of bacteria from the genus Bacillus can cause food poisoning and certain diseases. Methods: The research was based on quantitative methodology. We conducted a review of foreign and domestic literature. Using the questionnaire, we obtained data on the knowledge of health care workers about bacteria from the genus Bacillus as probiotics and pathogens. The research involved 50 healthcare workers at the primary healthcare center. We used descriptive statistics when analyzing data and depicting the results in graphs. Results: We found out that the respondents have already heard of bacteria from the genus Bacillus but better recognize them as pathogens. They are aware of the term probiotics and their positive properties on health. Respondents do know meaning of the word pathogen and they also recognize a few pathogenic bacteria from the genus Bacillus. Discussion and conclusion: Although healthcare workers continuously promote health, we sometimes forget how important it is to start with ourselves. Since most respondents are familiar with bacteria from the genus Bacillus primarily as pathogens, it would be beneficial to organize short seminar to refresh their knowledge about probiotics and remind them that certain bacteria can also have a positive impact on health.
