Ure spanja zaradi pomanjkanja spanja in neurejenega spalnega ritma nadoknadijo podnevi z dnevnim počitkom. Študenti s slabimi spalnimi navadami dosegajo slabše akademske rezultate in poročajo o čezmerni dnevni zaspanosti. Veliko študentov ure spanja pred izpitom nameni učenju in s tem posledično zanemari ure, namenjene spanju.

Title:The impact of sleep on students academic performance
Abstract:Introduction: Sleep has an important role in learning and memory consolidation. It is well known that sleep and lifestyle habits affect the quality of life, health and academic performance. The goal of this thesis is to determine how sleep affects students' academic performance during their studies. Methods: A descriptive method was used to review the sources. The literature was searched using a search string in English language and inclusion criteria in international databases: CINAHL Ultimate, PubMed, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. The search flow was presented in the form of a PRISMA diagram; the strength of evidence was ranked using the hierarchy of evidence. The studies included in the final analysis were analysed in detail and synthesised in the form of a table. Results: Based on suitability, 12 articles were included in the final analysis. The results of the analysis showed that students have poor sleeping habits and they sleep less hours than recommended. Due to sleep deprivation and disorganized sleep rhythms, hours of sleep are made up during the day in daytime rest. Students with poor sleeping habits perform worse academically and report excessive daytime sleepiness. Many students spend the hours before an exam studying and consequently neglect the hours dedicated to sleep. Discussion and conclusion: Students’ academic performance is associated with good sleep quality. Problems related to sleep deprivation are under-researched in the literature; therefore, we aim to encourage students, their faculty and staff to promote healthy sleeping habits among students to help improve academic performance at the college.
