Title:Getting to know folk instruments from Gril's Ethnological Collection during music class
Abstract:In our master's thesis we defined experiential learning through a systematic literature analysis, focusing on museum pedagogy. We also defined the concepts of cultural heritage and folk musical instruments and prepared an overview of folk musical instruments in the Gril's Ethnological Collection. It is the largest private ethnological collection in the north-eastern part of Slovenia, which testifies to the fact that even amateur collectors can contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage. Based on the analysis of theoretical basis, we designed four learning units, based on experiential workshops. The learning units were implemented in the form of workshops at Rače Castle with the fifth class of primary school. We implemented a qualitative case study method, where we used triangulation to check the response of students and teachers to the implemented learning units. Students expressed satisfaction with the included activities, which they followed with interest. Teachers highlighted the well- thought-out interplay of activities and theoretical knowledge, which enabled students to remember the material better.
