Title:Designing a ski polygon in a limited space - an interactive and sustainable approach
Abstract:In the Master's thesis we focused on designing a ski polygon that is based on sustainability and interactivity. The main purpose was to design a functional ski polygon, regardless of the fact that it is limited to a small space and region with a relatively low altitude, where the amount of natural snow during the skiing season is low. We designed our polygon based on a comparative analysis of the ski polygons offered by ski resorts worldwide. Here we identified the key features and factors that are essential for a functional ski polygon that suits different age groups and skill levels. We established guidelines for planning ski polygons and then applied them to design our own polygon. One of our main goals was to design a ski polygon that is sustainable and affordable. For this exact reason, we designed exercises that allow us to adapt and transform them. The layout of the ski polygon is optimal, it allows us to upgrade the individual ski station to suit different levels of skiing ability. During the process of writing the master thesis, we came to a conclusion that designing a ski polygon is a long and complex process, as for it to be effective it is important to take into consideration key factors such as accessibility, safety, terrain, snow conditions, user needs, ski lift involvement, equipment selection, animation, sustainability and interactivity.
