Title:Impact of covid-19 on the business performance of Pomurske mlekarne d.d.
Abstract:In 2019, a virus called Covid-19 first appeared in China. In 2020, the virus took hold of practically the entire world, eventually including our country, Slovenia. A week after the outbreak of the first wave in Slovenia, the authorities decided to declare an epidemic. The epidemic affected every individual, as well as various business sectors. Companies were forced to find other ways of continuous operation. It was essential for companies to maintain relationships with customers, with some degree of optimism and the ability to operate during the lockdown. In that time, motivating the employees and making them feel better at their workplace were challenges that were crucial. Covid-19 left behind numerous negative, as well as positive consequences for business and the economy in 2020. New opportunities and threats emerged. In my thesis, I focused on the company Pomurske mlekarne d.d., which is part of the agricultural and food processing industry; and more specifically, the dairy processing sector. For this thesis, I focused on the years 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Covid-19 had both positive and negative consequences for Pomurske mlekarne. One of the biggest positive changes was an increased domestic demand and thus a significant increase in sales during Covid-19. The key negative consequence for Pomurske mlekarne was the sick leave of its employees, where the company was forced to coordinate production using its healthy employees, and coordinate it with the procurement of raw materials and packaging. Judging from the study of the annual report (balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement) and interviews with leading employees, the Covid-19 epidemic had greater positive than negative consequences. During the Covid-19 epidemic, Pomurske mlekarne increased the profitability of its operations, which in turn effected an increase in revenue on the domestic market.
