Title:The use of artifical intelligence and machine learning in the prevention of bank fraud
Abstract:In the era of widespread digitalization and increasing use of digital payments, banks and various financial institutions worldwide are facing a growing number of banking frauds, including those related to card payments by their clients and customers. These banking frauds not only result in financial losses for banks and their clients but also affect the trust and reputation of individual institutions. Various fraudsters and criminal organizations are constantly educating themselves, seeking and finding new methods for successful fraud. Consequently, financial institutions are compelled to search for cutting-edge methods and technologies to prevent these unwelcome incidents. In this master's thesis, we focus on potential software solutions incorporating state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for early detection and prevention of such events. We examine different forms of banking fraud, identify fundamental advantages and characteristics of individual solutions, and explore case studies of implementing AI-based software solutions within banking environments. Greater emphasis is placed on well-established solutions based on widely recognized algorithms. The thesis addresses topics that extend beyond economics into the realm of fundamental computer science. Without this slightly deeper technical foundation, it would be difficult to understand the complexity and comprehensive nature of our subject. Furthermore, when researching and writing on this topic, one cannot avoid discussing the basic principles that build and form artificial intelligence. In recent years, the concept and application of artificial intelligence have become reality for ordinary individuals in the developed world. We believe it is reasonable that everyone should understand the basics and building blocks of artificial intelligence, enabling easier and higher-quality integration into daily tasks, work processes, and security measures. The fact is that banking fraudsters are already effectively utilizing this cutting-edge technology, and in combating this type of crime, it will likely be necessary to make artificial intelligence accessible not only to experts but also to ordinary people—the end customers and users. We believe that most people's fears regarding artificial intelligence can be eliminated through research, learning, and knowledge about this subject. Artificial intelligence is a complex and sophisticated concept, yet the term "artificial" itself clearly indicates that it consists of different components than living organisms. With appropriate knowledge and proper utilization, this tool can simplify many tasks in our everyday lives.
