DISKUSIJA IN ZAKLJUČEK: Na podlagi rezultatov so bili v zaključku podani predlogi za izboljšanje komunikacijskih strategij v zdravstvenih sistemih v kriznih razmerah. Ključni poudarki vključujejo pomen jasnih in enotnih informacij, boljšo koordinacijo med vodstvom in zaposlenimi ter krepitev kompetenc zdravstvenih delavcev na področju kriznega komuniciranja.

Title:The importance of communication in stressful situations during the COVID-19 pandemic
Abstract:INTRODUCTION: The pandemic has posed a major challenge for both healthcare professionals and the general public, as communication barriers due to protective measures, social distancing and the rapid spread of misinformation have been very pronounced. The master's thesis explores the importance of communication in stressful situations of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a special focus on the healthcare sector. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse how effective communication affects stress management in crisis situations and how improved communication strategies can contribute to better coping with similar challenges in the future. METHODS: The theoretical part of the thesis describes in detail the role of communication, the barriers that have emerged during the pandemic, and the impact of stress on communication processes. It also presents the role of crisis management and leadership approaches in healthcare institutions, which are crucial in ensuring the stable functioning of the system in crisis situations. The empirical part of the master's thesis is based on quantitative research conducted using a survey method. The research involved the preparation of a structured questionnaire, which was divided into several sections and covered key areas such as the perception of communication in crisis situations, the level of stress and the effectiveness of communication strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The questionnaire was randomly distributed among healthcare professionals using the snowball method. In this way, a representative sample of 236 respondents was covered, which enabled statistical processing of data with descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing. RESULTS: The research conducted, using four hypotheses, comprehensively shed light on the importance of communication during the stressful situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the healthcare environment. It has been found that communication plays a key role in that communication plays a key role in stress management, as it acts as a protective factor that reduces feelings of helplessness and contributes to more effective problem solving. Meanwhile, despite epidemiological restrictions, employees still most often resorted to personal conversation, which emphasizes the importance of direct, human interaction in crisis situations. It has been confirmed that stress among employees is most often expressed through physical symptoms such as headache and fatigue, which further confirms the need for early recognition of distress and provision of support. The last hypothesis showed that the method and importance of communication differ depending on the field of work in healthcare - for example, that employees in intensive care, internal medicine and pediatric departments attribute a greater role to communication due to the nature of their work. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Based on the results, the conclusion provides suggestions for improving communication strategies in healthcare systems in crisis situations. Key highlights include the importance of clear and uniform information, better coordination between management and employees, and strengthening the competences of healthcare professionals in the field of crisis communication.
