Abstract:Doktorska disertacija obravnava razvoj smernic za načrtovanje sodobnih energijsko učinkovitih večetažnih montažnih lesenih stavb, z zagotavljanjem ustrezne ravni toplotnega ugodja v različnih makroklimatskih pogojih, konstrukcijskih sistemih ter etažnosti. Rezultati so podani v obliki tabel, diagramov in poenostavljenih shem, kar omogoča enostavno uporabo v zgodnjem načrtovanju energijske učinkovitosti večetažnih lesenih stavb s sprejemljivim toplotnim ugodjem.

Title:Application of sensitivity analysis for the development of design guidelines for energy-efficient multi-storey timber buildings with optimal thermal comfort in different climate zones
Abstract:The doctoral dissertation deals with the development of guidelines for the design of modern energy-efficient multi-storey prefabricated timber buildings that ensure optimal thermal comfort under different macroclimatic conditions, construction systems and building heights. The dissertation focuses on the application of sensitivity analysis using the Morris method, which makes it possible to identify key parameters that significantly influence the improvement of energy efficiency and thermal comfort. The developed approach, which combines sensitivity analysis and multi-criteria decision making, provides a systematic framework for optimal design. The results are presented in the form of tables, diagrams and simplified schemes, facilitating their use in the early design phase of energy efficient multi-storey timber buildings with acceptable thermal comfort. The research examines a wide range of input parameters, including building construction and thermal envelope, ventilation, infiltration, active heating, ventilation and cooling systems, and occupant behavior. It also includes a comprehensive analysis of three different construction systems for timber buildings (frame-panel, massive, hybrid construction) taking into account the static load-bearing capacity up to the maximum height or number of floors in different climate zones in Europe (Ljubljana, Athens, Helsinki). In addition, three categories of thermal comfort are analyzed in order to enable individual adaptation of the design of multi-storey timber buildings. The main objective of the thesis is to develop a methodological framework to determine the optimal approach for the early design phase of energy efficient multi-storey timber buildings by evaluating the influence of selected input parameters through a sensitivity analysis (Morris method) on the output parameters to ensure energy efficiency and acceptable thermal comfort. The study is divided into four main sections. In the first part, the existing literature is reviewed, focusing on multi-storey timber buildings in different building systems and climate classifications, and key parameters for the energy performance and thermal comfort of a basic energy model are identified. In the second section, parametric dynamic simulations of the basic energy model are conducted to deepen the understanding of energy demand and thermal comfort in multi-storey timber buildings under different building systems, heights and thermal comfort categories. In the third section, a method for identifying critical input parameters is developed using a sensitivity analysis based on the Morris method. The fourth section presents a multi-criteria design approach that integrates energy efficiency and thermal comfort for the optimal design of multi-storey timber buildings. The final chapter generalizes the results into practical guidelines. The results of this dissertation, presented in the form of practical guidelines, will help researchers, designers and planners in the early stages of design by providing a quick, straightforward and efficient approach to the design of energy efficient multi-storey timber residential buildings. These designs will ensure a high level of thermal comfort while meeting modern sustainability standards, esthetic values and living comfort.
