Title:Cyber espionage as part of cyberwarfare
Abstract:In the thesis, various types of cyberattacks are expamined, with particular emphasis placed on cyber espionage. The foundational principles of cyberattacks are applied in each case, as effective attacks require thorough preparation and research into potencial vulnerabilities. Special attention is given to covert, yet effective intrusion methods into information systems. The historical development and current trends of cyberattacks are outlined. A correlation between cyber warfare and traditional hacking is established, with detailed analysis of the underlying motives. Through the review of notable incidents, insight is offered into the scale, geografic impact, and ideological drivers behind cyber intrusions. A descriptive methodology has been employed, supported by structured interviews within companies operating in critical infrastructure sector. The influence of modern technologies is already evident in the realm of cyber warfare, whereas in cyber espionage, these technologies are utilized as tools to facilitate a more persuasive and adaptive approach. In cases of direct intrusion, a straightforward approach is predominantly applied. Cybersecurity is framed as a critical issue within European regulatory framework, where measures are aimed at strengthening protection and creating a more secure digital environment. This thesis provides a significant contribution to the understanding of contemporary security challenges, and offers direcion for future reasearch in the field.
