Abstract:V poljskih poskusih, izvedenih na šestih kmetijah po Sloveniji, smo preučevali vpliv prezimnih dosevkov (inkarnatka (Trifollium incarnatum L.) in mnogocvetna ljuljka (Lolium multiflorum Lam. ssp. Tudi izmerjeni parametri kakovosti koruze, izraženi s količino surovih beljakovin, surovega pepela, dušika, kalija in fosforja so bili v tem obravnavanju najvišji.

Title:Yield and quality of maize (Zea mays l.), grown after a previously sown winter cover crop
Abstract:In field trials conducted on six farms in Slovenia, the effects of the winter cover crops crimson clover (Trifollium incarnatum L) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. ssp. Italicum Schniz and Kell) on the yield and quality of maize (Zea mays L) were investigated. The winter cover crops were sown at two dates (end of August and mid–September), mulched in spring and incorporated into the soil before sowing the maize. Depending on the previous winter cover crop treatment, the maize was fertilised with either a full (215 kg N ha-1) or a reduced (107 kg N ha-1) rate of nitrogen. The resulst showed that the highest total yield (total plant biomass and grain) was achieved when the maize was sown after the crimson clover with the reduced nitrogen rate. In this treatment, the measured quality parameters, including crude protein, crude ash, nitrogen, potassium and phosporus content, were also the highest. Nitrogen content was the most important indicator of forage quality and comparable or even higher, than in treatments with the full nitrogen fertilization rate after using Italian rygrass. The results suggest, that use of crimson clover as a winter cover crop can effectively reduce the need for nitrogen fertilisation in maize crops by half, without compromising the yield or the quality.
